Waimanalo Bay Beach Park & Recreation Area
Waimanalo Bay Beach Park is a family-style county beach park in the centre of Waimanalo Bay, also nicknamed "Sherwood's" by locals. With sand like soft white powdered sugar and shady ironwood forest backing, this beautiful stretch of coast can be considered one Windward side favourite. It only takes a 35-minute drive from Honolulu to the beach and it’s worth the journey. When swimming conditions are too dangerous elsewhere, visitors to Sandy Beach or Makapu'u Beach Parks are often diverted to this beach.
Waimanalo Bay Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. It has turquoise water and miles upon miles of soft white sand that you can feel with just your toes!
The nickname "Sherwood's" fits this beach well, as the visitors have to go through a large Ironwood pine forest stretching between parking lots and sand beaches. The native Australian trees of these forests include evergreen needles that can be up over two feet long!
Waimanalo Beach Park is one of the most popular parks in Hawaii for locals to play sports, go fishing or just hang out with friends. The area around this park becomes alive on weekends when people flock there from all over the island. There are plenty of events happening here like kite flying contests and grade level athlete meets that bring visitors year-round!
The Waimanalo Bay Beach Park campground has a spacious parking area, 3 separate restrooms each with showers and picnic tables for your convenience. Additionally, to the left of the parking lot, there is a campsite section of the park that is used for big family reunions and other special events. Because it is a day-use parking lot, the beach in front of it is considerably less busy than the parking lot on the right.
