Visit Kalama Beach Park in East Oahu
Kalama Beach Park, Kailua is located on the windward side of Oahu. It's actually next door (northwest) to one of its neighboring beaches - Lanikai Beach and Kailua Beach Park. If you're looking for beautiful blue waters and powdery sand this park will not disappoint you.
Additionally, the beach here is extremely long, providing plenty of space to stretch out even on weekends. Even though it seems that this is just a part of Kailua Beach Park, it was once part of a private estate until the City and County of Honolulu acquired it many years ago. You should visit a beach in this region if you haven't gone there once since the ocean colours and extremely smooth sand are unlike anywhere else in the world.
Most of the time, the wave action is calm, and the water is very pleasant to swim in. The only major drawback of Kalama Beach Park is the parking situation, which is very limited and the parking area cannot handle a sufficient number of vehicles. Moreover, there is no street parking available. That's a common practice for beaches in this region, and I'm sure the locals appreciate that it stays that way considering how busy Kailua can be with visitors during the summer months.
Regarding Kalama Beach Park amenities, a bathroom and a shower are available, and both are clean and well-maintained, so don't worry about that. The windy weather makes it a great location for kitesurfing or windsurfing; you may even see one of world-class windsurfers - like Robbie Naish – shredding the waves on Kailua Bay. He normally launches from Kailua Beach Park, but you'll be able to watch him flying across the ocean at Kalama Beach if you're lucky enough. He has won a total of 24 world championships. Not bad for a kid from the neighborhood.
