Pearl Harbor National Memorial: One Of The Most Visited Attractions In Hawaii
The attack on Pearl Harbor, one of the greatest watershed events in American history, is being commemorated today. When you go onboard the USS Arizona Memorial, you'll be transported back to World War II.
This monument has a long wait time and a lot of people, but tourists nearly universally agree that the experience is well worth it. Travelers suggest coming before 7 a.m. if you intend on purchasing a walk-up ticket (only 1,300 are distributed per day on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 7 a.m.). You may also book one via the monument's ticket site up to 60 days in advance. Both types of timed passes are free, however, there is a $1 service charge for tickets purchased online.
A free parking lot, a bookshop, a theater, toilets, and various indoor and outdoor exhibitions are available on-site. A visitor center is also available, which is open everyday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Inside the monument's structures, only transparent see-through bags are allowed; if you do not have a clear bag, you may leave your bag at the property's storage area for $5. Plan on driving, riding the bus, or using the Waikiki Trolley's Purple Line to get to the monument. For further information, visit the National Park Service's website.
Visitors are welcome to explore the park's many pathways that overlook the port and learn more about the assault via roadside displays along the route. The Remembrance Circle, a beautiful monument devoted to those who died during the attacks, both civilian and military, is a centerpiece of the grounds.
The Pearl Harbor National Memorial is home to the USS Arizona Memorial, Battleship Missouri, USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park, and Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor. Whatever you do on Oahu island, make sure you won’t miss these historical sites at Pearl Harbor.
