Makapuu Beach: Hawaii's Golden Hair Beauty
As you drive around Makapuu Beach Point Lookout, be sure to pull over and take a moment to enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the windward Oahu, including the stunning hillside that leads to the Makapuu Beach lighthouse and spectacular views of the Park Makapuu Beach below. There are 2 parts of the beach separated by sand dunes and a large pile of lava rock on the seabed.
The irresistible offer from the sea
It's a nice place to dip in the water and on most days (especially on weekdays) the beach is empty. It can't be seen from the road. To get to it you'll have to walk through the beachfront park all the way to the stone seawall that lines the park's oceanfront and then turn right. The beach is backed by a few luxury beachfront homes.
The beach park itself has some large trees that provide plenty of shade, and there are picnic tables and benches. The park is also used by surfers to access a few surf sites located offshore
A warning for daredevils
While swimmers explore all areas of sand, body surfers tend to congregate on the far side of the beach, where beach waves are more ideal for surfing. Be aware that the currents at Makapuu Beach can sometimes be strong, causing tidal inundation. Do not dare to brave the strong and dangerous waves if you are inexperienced or in doubt.
I would recommend checking with the coast guard before entering the water for current conditions and directions at the best sea entry points.
