Kaneohe Bay - A Must-Visit Spot On Oahu Island
The Kaneohe Bay is one of East Oahu's most idyllic areas, with a backdrop that has been used for Hollywood Blockbusters including Pearl Harbor, Gilligan’s Island, and Adam Sandler’s beloved 50 First Dates. Not so much a beach (sand is scarce to none) as it is the breathtaking sight that unfolds in front of you, this vast stretch of vibrant blue water surrounded by captivating mountains, the Ko’olau Mountain range.
Although not exactly a swimming destination, kayakers, boaters, and ardent fishermen will get their fix (and more than their fair share of fish!) in the calm, glass-like waters of this Eastern Hawaiian realm. Kaneohe Bay, which is home to five small islands, including the well-known Coconut Island, also has a sandbar in the center of its girth, which is ideal for putting up a temporary barbeque area on a boat. The community's love launching their vessels and socializing at the sandbar, making it a friendly event that brings happiness and smile to everyone.
Kaneohe Bay Amenities: There are public toilets available at parks all around Kaneohe Bay. There is also a deli-style restaurant, restrooms, and a boat launch/ramp at He'eia Pier.
Kayaking in Kaneohe Bay
Imagine the feeling of floating on a kayak through pristine waters teeming with life. The sunlight filters through clear blue skies as you navigate your way past coral reefs and over mountainous waves, all while listening to birds chirping away in the trees, it doesn't get much more peaceful than this! You can experience it all in Kaneohe Bay. Kaneohe Bay has beautiful kayaking waters teeming with marine life and extensive coral reef systems. Kaneohe offers sheltered waters and possibilities for snorkelling, as well as off-shore islands and sandbars to land on, for people who wish to explore a different area of Oahu by kayak.
