Ancient Diamond Head Crater - Honolulu - Oahu
A trip to Waikiki is not complete without a visit to Diamond Head Crater. This iconic formation and its magnificent crater are located just outside of the city, and visitors can get there by an easy ride on the trolley from the resort. At more than 760 feet high with breathtaking views that span all across Oahu's south coast as well as up into Honolulu bay overhead.
Diamond Head, an old volcanic crater, has been extinct for about 150,000 years—fortunately, since the enormous crater looms above Waikiki. The short but steep path to Diamond Head's 760-foot peak provides a 360-degree panorama of Oahu from above.
An observation deck with panoramic views of Waikiki and Honolulu may be found at the very top of the building. Because the area above the railing is extremely crowded, it may take some time to get a spot just in front of the railings. Although there are often throngs of people visiting Diamond Head Crater, we will have opportunities to take in the scenery at some point.
Incredibly beautiful, the view of the city, ocean, and mountains in the distance is just stunning. We've seen a number of cities from different vantage points, but Diamond Head is by far the most magnificent view of a city we've ever seen in our lives. We went back and forth, and we could have stayed up here all day if we wanted to. That was certainly worth all of the time and effort.
