Visiting the Hawaiian Palace is a pleasant and simple activity to do while on the island of Oahu. Not only does it provide you with a piece of Royal Hawaiian history, but it also shows you what life was like back in the past, exhibits some of their most prized artworks, and has exquisitely crafted finishes and architecture throughout the palace.
King Kalakua & Iolani Palace
After being the first king to traverse the world, King Kalakaua constructed 'Iolani Palace in 1882. He didn't skimp on anything. The best furniture from across the globe were ordered, and the Palace matched the grandeur of European castles. The Palace, which had electricity, telephones, and indoor plumbing, outdid the White House in terms of ingenuity and technology. King Kalakaua, his wife Queen Kapiolani, and his younger sister Queen Liliuokalani lived at 'Iolani Palace. King Kalakaua died in 1891, leaving his sister Queen Liliuokalani to succeed him.
Today, the 'Iolani Palace is a magnificent public museum funded by volunteers and patrons. Visitors and locals alike are drawn to the Palace, which invites them to stroll her 7,000 square feet of hardwood flooring and listen to her tales from the past.
