Waimanalo Beach - One of the best beaches on the windward side of Oahu

Imagine a beach that stretches for miles, with sand that is as smooth as powder and blue water that stretches as far as the eye can see. If you're thinking about taking a vacation to Oahu, you won't have to worry about anything! Waimanalo Beach is a real hidden treasure on this famous Hawaiian island, despite the fact that many tourists never get to see it.

Waimanalo Beach History

Historically, the white sand beaches of Waimanalo have been recognized for their importance to the histories and cultures of Hawaii. Many historians believe that Kauai was the site where Native Hawaiians first set foot on land; however, archaeologists have discovered artifacts in Waimanalo that suggest otherwise, demonstrating that settlement there dates back much further than previously thought possible.

Things to do at Waimanalo Beach

Who doesn't like pure white beaches with aqua to the deep blue colored ocean in the backdrop, as well as coconut palms swinging softly in the gentle winds that blow over Waimanalo Beach?

When compared to Waikiki Beach, Waimanalo's beach scene and atmosphere are slower. The locals are genuine friendly faces from the neighbourhood who can help you find your way around or just have a good time lounging on one of their gorgeous beaches!

Locals call the beach “Sherwood” for its soft powdery sand with giant ironwood trees on the border that offer fantastic shade from the afternoon sun. The beach, which faces Waimanalo Bay, is vast, stretching for 5 miles in length. It is a family-friendly beach, with lifeguard stations strategically placed around the beach's perimeter.

Some of my top picks to cross off the list are listed below:

  • You’ll enjoy some nice long walks on this 3-mile beach with powdery sands.
  • Take a nap in between the sheltering Ironwood trees and gorgeous views of an ocean, or swim if you're feeling up for it!
  • Try fishing offshore where there's often fish just hanging around waiting patiently at their water's edge to be caught by someone like yourself who has come looking for them (and might even bring back dinner).
  • If you find a game of volleyball being played on the beach, join in on the activity with locals.

Amenities at Waimanalo Beach

A large parking lot and a variety of amenities are available at this beach. Picnic spots, three separate toilet and shower facilities, lifeguard stations, as well as shaded places with huge ironwood trees to hide behind, are all available at this beach.
