Majesty Halona Blowhole - O’ahu Natural Wonder
Halona Blowhole is a great place to stop and smell the salty ocean air while driving along Kamehameha Highway near Sandy Beach. The view expands without end, as you can see Molokai on clear days or Lanai if luck favors the travelers!
The Halona Blowhole, on the other hand, is the major attraction. Hawaiian rocks are packed with little air pockets created by lava or ocean waves, and this specific blowhole produces a tower of white spray that rises into the air when a large wave rushes in and bursts out of the hole, like a hose bursting.
Located on the eastern end of Oahu, Halona Blowhole is a small pullover parking lot where visitors get an opportunity to stretch their legs and see one amazing view-the Pacific Ocean. The waves there are rough with sharp rocks that make it seem like you're walking through some sort wild jungle; unforgiving but beautiful at the same time!
Tips for visitors visiting Halona Blowhole
When people don't obey the rules, it's been a continuous struggle to get them to understand that this is a dangerous spot. Another tale of drowning or disaster on this part of the island is the last thing that residents want to see on their nightly news. Please pay close attention to the warning notices that have been placed and avoid the temptation to jump the fences.
The waves here come in unpredictable sizes and shapes. You might get hit with a big one that takes you out to sea, or an unsuspecting small wave will suddenly turn into something more dangerous than expected as it crashes against some rocks near the shoreline. The water is deep here and there's no shoreline to protect you from the waves, which will pound you against the rocks and you will be unable to climb back up.
It is not difficult to locate parking at this location, despite the fact that it is often crowded. Visitors usually stay here for a short period of time - just long enough to stretch their legs, take in the stunning scenery, and capture some beautiful pictures. They typically spend between 10 and 15 minutes at this location. Because of the high turnover in parking spaces, you'll notice vehicles driving away at a rapid pace to continue their sightseeing journey.
