Fun Activities At Waimanalo Bay Beach Park
Waimanalo Bay Beach Park, popularly known as "Sherwood's" by locals, is a family-friendly county beach park in the heart of Waimanalo Bay. With beautiful white powdered sugar sand, a shady ironwood forest backing the beach, and regular cooling on-shore breezes, this Windward side favourite is only a 35-minute drive from Honolulu and well worth the trip. Visitors to Sandy Beach or Makapu'u Beach Parks are frequently routed to this beach when swimming conditions elsewhere are too dangerous.
Waimanalo Beach Activities
Swimming, bodysurfing, and boogie boarding are all popular activities on this beach. If you want to stay on land, Waimanalo Beach is ideal for a stroll... a very long stroll! Waimanalo has Oahu's longest unbroken white-sand beach, which is nearly 3 miles long. Ironwood trees shade a major amount of the beach, providing welcome shade from the sun.
Waimanalo Beach is known for its small and lively beach breaking waves. Unless the Oahu surf report is reporting the southeasterly side flat, this can be a wonderful spot to leap into the waves and bodysurf or boogie board back to shore. It's ideal for novices, kids, and anyone looking to have fun in the friendly surf. That being said, always pay attention to children in the water and avoid going out if the surf appears to be too rough.
Because of its location on the Windward Coast, it can be highly windy here for long periods of time. If you plan on picnicking here during the winter, bring a light jacket, especially for the kids.
Waimanalo Beach Camping
While you cannot camp on Waimanalo Beach, you can set up a tent in the Sherwood Forest area that borders this lovely Oahu beach. That is if providing you have the necessary equipment and camping permission. There is nothing better than waking up to paradise footsteps away.
Waimanalo Beach is usually quiet during the week, but on weekends, islanders and visitors alike go to the beach to swim, play, and catch up on some much-needed R&R.
